Adult Self-Organized Sports

Including Men’s Floor Hockey, Men’s Basketball

These self-organized sports programs give the participants the freedom to play recreational sport in a fun environment.

Room:  Gymnasium

Equipment Required: Please feel free to bring your own hockey stick (without tape) or basketballs. PRCC does have a variety of these items available, however, quantity is limited. Instructor:  One volunteer per sport is assigned to help organize teams, ensure equipment is taken care of and take attendance.

 All-In-One Fitness

This class will get your heart beating and your muscles working! A traditional style aerobic class using lots of different equipment and props to give you an overall workout.

Athletic Yoga – Instructor: Heatheranne Bratty

Take your yoga practice to the next level with an Athletic Yoga class. By adding 3 or 5 pounds weights, sliders and bands, to specific sections and poses during the class, you will be able to take your yoga practice to the next level. This class is perfect for participants who are looking for a new challenge in their yoga class, and for those who would like to add more muscle tone to their bodies. This is a heart pumping, fat burning class that will burn LOTS of calories! Combining both strength and flexibility training, this class is truly a complete workout for your body mind and soul.

Ballet and Jazz

This recreational dance program introduces the basics of Ballet and Jazz to young dancers. The students will enhance their senses, learning about elegance, grace and rhythm. The program will be divided into two sessions, 5 weeks each, spent individually on Ballet or Jazz. The group will learn a small routine in each genre of dance. They will enjoy dance in a fun, inclusive atmosphere taught by young and energetic instructors.

Please Note: For this age group we encourage parents to remain in the building throughout the duration of the program.

Equipment Required: Comfortable clothing and water bottle. Dance attire is not required but is commonly worn by program participants (ballet flats, tutu, bodysuits, tights, etc)

Barre Fitness (Pronounced ‘bar’)

Barre is a unique, high-energy class that fuses legendary fitness techniques from Pilates, dance, yoga and athletic intervals. Using body-weight exercises, hand weights, and exercise balls, you will strengthen your entire body using isometric (small) muscle movements while creating balance, body awareness, flexibility and cardiovascular endurance. No previous experience is necessary – open to all fitness levels!

Cardio Strengthening

Get ready to party during this unique, aerobic workout that will combine cardio with a head-to-toe straightening routine! You will find a combination of moves incorporated from traditional aerobics, kickboxing, upper/lower strengthening and flexibility training all in just 1-hour. The moves are easy to follow, yet challenging. Great for all fitness levels!

Dance Fit

Dance the night away in this cardio class designed to burn calories and have fun while exploring various dance moves and styles.

Floor Hockey – Children/Youth

This recreational program works to promote active living through floor hockey in a supervised environment. The participants will benefit from a safe, fun environment to play floor hockey among friends, supervised by young, energetic instructors. Basic floor hockey rules will be explained.

Please Note: For this age group we encourage parents to remain in the building throughout the duration of the program.

Equipment Required: Hockey stick, if desired (without tape), comfortable clothing and water bottle. Sticks are provided but participants are welcome to bring their own if they prefer.

High-Intensity Interval Training

This workout is designed to burn fat and tones your body using interval-style training for great results! This fun, fast-paced workout will give you the challenge you are looking for.

Jazz and Hip Hop

Line Dancing 

This fun-filled class is a unique way to amp up your fitness routine while having fun and learning a new dance style!

About the Instructor:

Debbie Arnold starting line dancing in 1993 at the Wild Horse Salon in Halifax and at first thought she’d never get the hang of it, but she did and LOVED IT !! She’s been teaching line dancing for 2.5 years at St. Andrews Community Centre in Halifax and attending dance class the Rodeo and in Bedford for many years! She has also attended many workshops and 3 Line Dance Cruises. Country Line Dancing is her passion. She enjoys doing demos with her dance troop and entertaining people!

Older Adult Fitness

This class is a tame version of your traditional aerobics class. It is delivered in accordance with Canfitpro Older Adult Exercise Guidelines and in collaboration with the Osteoporosis Society. Older Adult Fitness combines cardiovascular routines, strengthening and flexibility exercises in order to improve overall heart and muscle health.

Pickleball

Pickleball, a racket sport played indoors on a badminton-size court is designed much like tennis but is played at a slower pace with a few differences. Instructions/rules will be available for beginners. All equipment will be provided for you to facilitate your own games.

Pound Fitness

POUND is a full-body cardio jam session, combining light resistance with constant simulated drumming. The workout fuses cardio, Pilates, strength movements, plyometrics and isometric poses. Through continual upper body motion using our lightly weighted exercise drumsticks, you’ll turn into a calorie-torching drummer, POUNDing off pounds as each song flies by!

Saturday Morning Bootcamp

Improve your strength and cardiovascular endurance at the same time in this all-levels boot camp class! This class is all about fun and camaraderie — it’s not about some drill sergeant yelling at you. Expect to get a bit of everything: weights, resistance bands, exercise balls, and bodyweight movements — no workout will be the same, so you’ll never get bored! This is an all-levels workout, so lots of options will be offered to make it easier or more challenging. If weather allows, we’ll move outside to soak in some Vitamin D at the same time.

Soccer – Age 3-4

This recreational program works to introduce soccer and promote active living. The participants will benefit from soccer-related games/drills as well as teamwork through scrimmage games. The participants will enjoy a fun, inclusive atmosphere taught by young, energetic instructors.

Supported Yoga

This class is designed for those with limited mobility who are looking for a chance to work on their balance and strength. Using the support of a chair and/or other props, this class will help you reach your mobility goals.

Tae Kwon Do

This program is run in partnership with Prospect Road Taekwondo and serves as an introduction to the art, in a fun and inclusive environment. Uniform is not required.

Instructor: Prospect Road Taekwondo

Yoga – Hatha

The gentle flow of Hatha Yoga leaves you feeling relaxed and refreshed. Different options are given for poses which allows beginner and intermediate participants to challenge their own practices.

Yogalates

Yogalates combines the relaxation and flexibility components of yoga practice with the core strengthening component of Pilates. Flow back and forth from one practice to the other throughout the course of each class. The goal is to leave you feeling strong and relaxed.
